In these notes my endeavour has been directed mainly to bring forward statistical evidence to show the prevalence of this infection *in the general population from whom the prisoners are drawn, and also the beneficial effect of attending to it in the prisoners soon after their admission. 2. The practical importance of the early detection and treatment of the parasitic infection of the bowels, particularly by ankylostomes, lies in the reduction of the bowel-complaints, anremia and debility, and possibly other disorders which may indirectly be caused by the presence of parasites in the alimentary canal. The statement given below shows the number of cases of dysentery and diarrhoea during the last seven years in this jail :?
